## 1,100 Acres of Dedicated Shooting Range Near Benton City, WA

The Tri-Cities Shooting Association operates Rattlesnake Mountain Shooting Facility, drawing competition shooters from the Tri-Cities area, across Washington, surrounding states, and Canada. This is one of the most extensive recreational shooting facilities in the Pacific Northwest.

The facility spans 1,100 acres of fenced land administered by Benton County, with property belonging to the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.

• •Rose-Iris multipurpose range: 20 covered firing points for rifle and handgun
• •High-power rifle range: 20 firing points with nine shooting lines up to 1000 yards (100, 200, 300, 600, 800, 900, and 1000-yard distances)
• •13 cowboy action and practical pistol bays
• •Covered Hunter Education range with Practical Field Exercise area
• •Rimfire (.22 caliber) plinking range
• •Centerfire pistol plinking range
• •Shotgun range with sporting clays, trap, and skeet fields
• •Primitive range for scheduled events

Closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

• •Rimfire & Centerfire Plinking Ranges: Saturday and Sunday 9 AM - 3 PM (RSO dependent)

• •Specialized Ranges: Pistol bays, primitive range, and 1000-yard high-power rifle range are open only for scheduled events.

• •Practical pistol competitions: 3rd Sunday of every month
• •Cowboy action shooting matches: Last Saturday of every month
• •High-power rifle matches: Scheduled on TCSA Calendar
• •Shotgun sports: Sporting clays, trap, and skeet on regular schedule

Non-members pay $10 daily usage fee plus target fees. For shooters coming more than a few times per year, annual membership is cost-effective. Membership types and fees are available in the current Membership Classifications document.

The dedicated Hunter Education range opened July 2011. Classes are taught by a team led by Chief Instructor Mike Patello and registered through City of Richland Parks and Recreation Department.

Shooting is NOT allowed without a trained Range Safety Officer present providing safety oversight.

All shooters must check in with the duty RSO before handling firearms. Key safety requirements include:

• •Muzzle always pointed down range (or up when moving to/from firing line)
• •Finger off trigger until ready to shoot
• •Firearms unloaded with action open between shooting
• •No more than 2 people per shooting table (1 shooter, 1 spotter/instructor)
• •Hearing and eye protection required for all
• •No one under 18 without close adult supervision
• •No visible holstered firearms; concealed carry allowed if remains concealed
• •Only paper targets allowed on Rose-Iris (no zombie-style, exploding, or popper targets)
• •No armor-piercing, incendiary, or tracer ammunition
• •No 50 cal. belt-fed firearms
• •No alcohol or drug-impaired individuals

The Tri-Cities Shooting Association is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliated with the National Rifle Association and the Civilian Marksmanship Program. TCSA has operational control of the ranges and provides trained Range Safety Officers for all public shooting activities. The organization manages RMSF under a lease/concessionaire agreement with Benton County. Donations are tax-deductible.

Rattlesnake Mountain Shooting Facility is located in Benton City, WA, approximately 8 miles northwest of Richland. Organizations may reserve special-purpose ranges by submitting a Range Use Request form.
