Location details and information

Established in 1929, La Crosse Rifle Club operates a private gated facility with a 600-yard rifle range and two pistol ranges. This is not a public "show up and shoot" operation—membership is required, and the club maintains tight control over who uses the facility and when.

The club runs multiple competitive programs throughout the year:

  • •High Power Rifle Matches – NRA-approved and NRA-registered 600-yard mid-range prone matches, including the Wisconsin State Championship (typically August)
  • •.22 ELR League – Extreme long range benchrest shooting with .22 LR rifles at distances from 50 to 500 yards
  • •Summer Practice Leagues – Tuesday and Thursday evening NRA HPR and XTC practices (May–September) at 200, 300, and 600 yards
  • •Hunter's Sight In – Public event held each November before deer season with volunteer spotters, targets, benches, and rests (25–300 yards)
  • •Trap Shooting – Seasonal league (details developing)

Current membership is capped at 100. Applicants must be sponsored by a current member in good standing and submit a $50 non-refundable application fee in person at a monthly club meeting. The waiting list typically runs about three years.

Once approved by the board, membership costs are $175/year plus a one-time $87.50 initiation fee.

  • •Club Meetings: First Wednesday of each month at 7:00 or 8:00 p.m. (seasonal variation). Non-members may attend meetings to learn more about joining.

According to their bylaws, La Crosse Rifle Club aims to:

  • •Provide and maintain a safe shooting range
  • •Support firearms safety education
  • •Encourage lawful firearm ownership
  • •Foster conservation of renewable wildlife resources
  • •Sponsor shooting tournaments and matches
  • •Develop character traits including honesty, fellowship, discipline, and self-reliance

All range maintenance, clubhouse upkeep, and match organization is handled entirely by volunteer members.
