Full description and what we offer
Bowhunters of Wyoming (BOW) isn't a retail shop or a range—it's the nonprofit organization that represents bowhunters statewide. Founded in 1974 by hunters who wanted the sport to not just survive but thrive, BOW remains Wyoming's only organization with bowhunting as its sole purpose.
The organization runs on three main tracks:
Advocacy & Season Management - Works directly with Wyoming Game and Fish Department on policy - Extended archery seasons from 10 days to 15-30 days in most areas - Pushed for archery-only licenses allowing extended hunting windows - Adjusted season dates so hunters aren't forced into overlapping seasons - Prevents dangerous gun/bow season overlap
Education & Community - Brought International Bowhunter Education Program (IBEP) to Wyoming - Regular presence at Wyoming Outdoor Weekend and Outdoor Expos - Hands-on mentoring for first-time bow shooters (kids and adults) - Educates elected officials on bowhunting policy and conservation
3D Shoots & Events - Coordinates 3D archery shoots statewide through six affiliate clubs: - Cambria Bowhunters - Cheyenne Field Archers - Cody Archery Club - Firehole Archers - Sheridan County Sportsmen's Association - White Mountain Archers - Annual Convention with photo contests and big game awards - Podcast featuring bowhunting stories and education
BOW's approach to fundraising is unusual: they keep 100% of Commissioner Tag proceeds, meaning every dollar raised goes directly to projects—they cover all raffle/auction costs themselves.
Since 1989, BOW has donated:
| Category | Amount | Used For |
|---|---|---|
| Conservation | $213,898 | Migration studies, water improvements, prescribed burns, grass planting, winter range, genetics research, turkey studies |
| Education | $61,249 | Hunting expos, mentor programs, 4H, archery in schools |
| Law Enforcement | $39,198 | Poaching decoys, trail cameras statewide |
| Access | $32,264 | Walk-in areas, hunter management areas |
| TOTAL | $346,609 |
Current Projects: BOW recently took delivery of six wildlife guzzlers (water collection systems for wildlife) in partnership with the Buffalo BLM Field Office, targeting Sheridan, Johnson, and Campbell counties. These systems provide reliable water sources for pronghorn, mule deer, elk, sage grouse, and other species in areas where natural water is miles away.
BOW operates through an Executive Council (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Newsletter Editor, Past President, and seven Area Representatives) plus volunteer committee chairs managing legislative efforts, membership, convention planning, and more.
Get Involved: BOW actively seeks funding requests and project ideas from agencies and organizations. Submit requests to [email protected].
