Full description and what we offer
Premier Elk Outfitters of Wyoming is a coalition of seven elite, independent outfitters operating across the state. Each member brings deep roots, professional expertise, and a reputation for delivering safe, successful, and memorable elk hunts. This isn't a single operation—it's a curated network of the state's most respected hunting guides.
With Wyoming's elk population now exceeding 100,000 (up from 60,000 twenty years ago), and the state's highest success rates among all Western states, now is genuinely the best time to hunt elk in the region.
Each outfitter runs different terrain and camp types, so you can choose what fits your needs:
Wilderness Horseback Camps - Multi-day pack-in experiences deep into backcountry - Canvas wall tents with wood stoves - Professional camp staff and hearty meals - Requires moderate to high physical fitness - Operates on National Forest permits
Drive-In Lodge Hunts - Modern cabins or custom log lodges - Road/4x4 vehicle access to hunting areas - Hot showers, comfortable beds, full meal service - Less physically demanding, more accessible - Hunts conducted on private ranch leases
Private Ranch Hunts by 4x4 - Spot-and-stalk from vehicles across private land - Good for hunters seeking comfort without sacrificing quality - Often higher success rates due to exclusive access

General Elk Licenses - Require just 2-3 preference points (easy to draw) - Available in productive hunting areas across Wyoming - Most accessible entry point for non-resident hunters
Limited Quota (Limited Entry) Areas - Higher competition, typically 8-10 preference points to guarantee a draw - Hunt some of Wyoming's most exclusive terrain - Smaller hunter numbers = less crowded hunts
Both options deliver trophy-quality hunts. The network helps you match your preference points to realistic drawing odds.
Archery Hunts - Begin September 10th - Bugling bulls during peak rut conditions - Rough Country Outfitters specializes here (35+ years, 75% success)
Type 2 Rifle Hunts - October 1st start date - Early season hunting during peak rut
Type 1 Rifle Hunts - October 15th start date - Later season, migratory elk patterns
"Over the last 20+ years, Wyoming's elk population has grown from 60,000 to well over 100,000, making it one of the best destinations for elk hunting in modern history."
Member outfitters maintain documented success rates:
These aren't marketing claims—these are specific, verifiable results from operations hunting the same country year after year.
Bulls typically score in these ranges depending on the hunt area: - General permit hunts: Quality mature bulls - Limited entry hunts: 325-345" B&C scoring bulls common - Archery opportunities: 275-350" P&Y scoring bulls documented
Premier Elk Outfitters of Wyoming is a standalone independent marketing group—not affiliated with any other organization in the state. Each member outfitter operates independently with their own licenses, permits, and territory. The coalition simplifies your decision-making by vetting the best operators and helping match you with the right fit for your experience level, physical ability, preference points, and hunting style.
Contact the main office or browse individual outfitter pages to compare specific camps, terrain, and seasons.
