Full description and what we offer
Bullseye Tactical Firearms Training operates out of Castella, CA serving Shasta County, Redding, Siskiyou County, Mt. Shasta, and surrounding northern California counties. The biggest differentiator isn't what they teach—it's how they teach it.
Most CCW courses make you sit in a classroom for hours, then run you through a crowded public range with dozens of other students shooting nearby. Bullseye flips that: classroom instruction and range qualification happen at the same private facility on the same day. No running around. No waiting your turn. No strangers handling loaded firearms near your group.
Christopher Ewens owns and personally instructs every single class. He's been training shooters for 39+ years—both civilians and law enforcement. Over that span, he's worked with over 8,000 students. Ewens is known for diagnosing shooting deficiencies in students who've already taken courses from other instructors in the region. Zero accidents or injuries across his entire teaching history.
$320.00 per student
Two consecutive Saturdays, 8 hours each day. This meets California state law requirements for Shasta, Siskiyou, Modoc, Trinity, Tehama, and Glenn counties. Non-residents can also take this course to qualify for California CCW permits plus Oregon, Arizona, Florida, and Virginia non-resident permits.
Course covers: - Firearms safety and California law - Fundamentals of marksmanship (position, grip, breath control, sight alignment, trigger squeeze, follow-through) - Mental health concepts and violent encounter strategies - Dry fire practice and malfunction clearing - Flashlight and handgun integration (Bullseye is the only local course covering this—critical for low-light threat identification) - Three handgun qualification attempts included
$160.00 per student
One day, same-location classroom and range. Meets renewal requirements for all northern California counties plus non-resident applicants. Same qualification requirements as initial permits. Three attempts included; additional attempts are $5 each.
After completing any Bullseye class and receiving your permit, adding a new handgun to it is free and can usually be completed within a week at your convenience.

This course covers what to do before police arrive: avoidance, escape, and defensive response with a concealed handgun. Uses floor plans of workplaces, churches, or public spaces you actually visit. Scenario-based "force-on-force" training with airsoft replicas (no live firearms in this course). Covers interactions with arriving police—critical knowledge for your safety.
Ideal for workplace groups or church congregations who can develop site-specific policies together.
State law allows Bullseye to sell ammunition without requiring a background check (unlike gun stores). Handgun rentals are $25 plus ammunition cost.

"Chris instructs every BullsEye class. Hundreds of times Chris has diagnosed significant shooting deficiencies in students who previously completed classes provided by some of the other CCW instructors in the north state."
