Defensive Accuracy has built a reputation across the Bay Area and Central Valley for serious, no-nonsense concealed carry instruction. All instructors are certified by the California Department of Justice, Bureau of Firearms under the Carry Concealed Weapon Program—not just any trainer will do for your permit application.
The two-day initial course covers what you actually need to know:
Classes run 8am–5pm each day at Richmond Rod & Gun Club (3155 Goodrick Ave, Richmond, CA 94801) or United Sportsmen in Concord. Cost is $369, which includes all range fees, targets, and training certificates.

One permit covers California PLUS Utah, Arizona, Florida, and Virginia permits at no extra charge. Training is recognized in 33 states total: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
If your permit is expiring, the one-day renewal course reviews core skills with live-fire qualification. Available in Concord and Richmond, or by appointment as a small group/private class.
We service CCW renewals for 34+ law enforcement jurisdictions across Northern California, from San Francisco and Marin to Sacramento and Stockton.
Becoming an NRA-certified instructor opens doors to professional liability insurance through Lockton Affinity. Three 3-day courses:
NRA Pistol Instructor (Jan 30–Feb 1, 2026) NRA Shotgun Instructor (Feb 13–15, 2026) NRA Rifle Instructor (Mar 13–15, 2026)
Each course costs $450 and includes: - NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) — mandatory prerequisite - NRA Certified Basic [Discipline] - NRA Certified [Discipline] Instructor - Complimentary coffee, breakfast snacks, and bottled water all three days
Prerequisites must be completed within 24 months. Preregistration and prepayment required.

Mandatory gear check on Day One. For the 16-hour initial course:
Utah and Arizona non-resident permits require fingerprint cards. Service available at class.
