Full description and what we offer
Kings Mountain Archers has operated the San Mateo County Public Archery Range continuously since 1956 under a use permit from the County Board of Supervisors. This 25-acre facility at Huddart County Park in Woodside is maintained entirely by KMA volunteers—a group of archery enthusiasts committed to teaching, promoting, and encouraging safe archery practice for youth and adults.
The range sits amid tall redwoods on the eastern slopes of the Kings Mountain area, offering challenging terrain and natural backdrops.

KMA is non-discriminatory—both bowhunters and target shooters participate. Affiliated with NFAA nationally, CBH/SAA at state level, and Mission Trails Bowhunters Association locally.
Trails and targets meet NFAA safety and field range competition guidelines. Four-star NFAA certified facility. Archery equipment only—no crossbows, broadheads, BB guns, paintball guns, firearms, or throwing knives.
"Safety is the number one goal on the archery range."
Key safety rules: No high draws. All archers must be behind the shooting line before shooting. One-way trails only. Shoot only from designated stakes at designated targets. Adult supervision required for children. No unauthorized targets (3-D, foam, or cube targets).
Founded as a California non-profit corporation "to foster competition with bow and arrow, practice for hunting with the bow, and to provide personal enjoyment of the sport of archery." KMA runs volunteer maintenance projects including building and maintaining 46 permanent targets, repairing trails, picnic areas, and outbuildings. Funding comes primarily from membership dues, with smaller amounts from donations and competition registration fees. Donations support free lessons and community programs.
