Full description and what we offer
Rancho Park Archers operates the Easton Archery Range at Cheviot Hills Park in Los Angeles—the same facility that hosted Olympic archers in 1984. After the original 30-meter range was demolished in 2014, the new expanded range opened in September 2017 with generous funding from the Easton Foundation. It's a 501(c)(3) nonprofit designed to serve archers of all levels, from beginners to competitive athletes.
The range features dedicated lanes for: - 10-meter targets (recurve, compound, barebow) - 18-meter targets (standard Olympic distance) - 30-meter targets (historical Olympic distance) - 50-meter targets (long-range competition)
Whether you're learning to shoot or training for tournaments, the range layout accommodates your level.
Rancho Park Archers removes barriers to entry. They run free introductory classes:
| Schedule | Details |
|---|---|
| Saturdays | 11:00 AM |
| 2nd Sunday of Month | 1:30 PM |
| Minimum Age | 8 years old |
| Class Size | Capped at 18 people |
The club supplies all equipment and handles the safety briefing. After your intro class, you get two free shooting sessions during Supervised Open Shooting with coaches present. After that, modest gear rental fees apply (free for members).
Show up 2 hours early to grab a registration form—classes fill up fast and are first-come, first-served.
Once you've taken the intro class, you can shoot during open hours:
| Day | Times |
|---|---|
| Saturday | 9:30 AM–11:30 AM, 1:30 PM–3:30 PM |
| Sunday | 11:00 AM–2:00 PM |
Full range access is open to members and equipped archers 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, 7 days a week with your own equipment.
The range staffs eight certified instructors, all holding USA Archery credentials. What that means: they've been trained in safety, shooting technique, and skill development. They're insured, background-checked, and SafeSport trained. No shortcuts.
Coaches available include:
Instructors work with groups of three or more and can be scheduled in advance through the calendar.
Membership is optional. Non-members can use the range anytime with their own equipment. Membership benefits include:
| Membership Type | Cost | Benefits |
|---|---|---|
| Single Annual | $100 | Vote in elections, free club equipment rental, member pricing on tournaments |
| Family Annual | $100 | Same as single |
| Senior Annual | $100 | Same as single |
| Lifetime | $1,000 | One-time payment, all annual benefits forever |
Equipment rental is free for members during open shooting. Non-members pay a modest fee after using two free post-intro-class sessions.
The range also accepts donations. Membership and donation funds support target wall upkeep and public programs like intro classes and open shooting.
Dress code: Wear comfortable, close-fitting clothes and no dangly earrings or lip jewelry—bowstrings catch loose items.
Safety rules: Broadheads and bodkin points are illegal. The range has suffered damage from irresponsible shooters. Violators will be prosecuted.
Contact the range: - Phone: (213) 632-8086 - Email: [email protected] - Location: Cheviot Hills Park, 2455 S. Motor Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90064 (driveway closest to Pico Boulevard)
Rancho Park Archers fills a gap: it's a nonprofit public range where beginners don't need to own equipment to start, where Olympic-level facilities exist at the community level, and where certified instruction is actually accessible. Founded as a volunteer organization operating the original 1984 range, the 2017 expansion and nonprofit structure created something bigger—a real archery community.
