The Florida Sport Shooting Association (FSSA) was founded in 1986 as Florida's NRA state association. They don't operate a single range—instead, they're the coordination hub for competitive shooting sports across the entire state, sanctioning matches and supporting affiliated clubs from Jacksonville to Key West.
FSSA coordinates statewide shooting competitions across multiple disciplines:
- •Precision Pistol - NRA State Championships (NRA Bullseye format)
- •High Power Rifle - 600, 1000-yard matches and XTC competition
- •Smallbore Rifle - 3-position, prone, and benchrest
- •Metallic Silhouette - Hunter's Pistol, Smallbore Rifle, and Cowboy Rifle
- •Rimfire Benchrest - Precision rimfire competition
- •Air Rifle - Youth and adult air rifle events
- •Trap & Skeet - International style doubles and trap
- •USPSA - Practical pistol courses of fire

FSSA works with clubs throughout Florida to host sanctioned events:

FSSA actively supports new shooters through organized programs:
Women on Target - NRA-sanctioned pistol clinics introducing women to firearms safety and shooting fundamentals. Clinics include range commands, shot fundamentals, and practical shooting time. Firearms and ammunition provided.
Youth Programs - Basic rifle instruction covering: - Firearm safety fundamentals - Shooting technique and fundamentals - Competitive silhouette matches - Shotgun and trap shooting programs
Recent youth program at Chuluota: 10 participants completed a 6-event program moving from safety basics to competing in mock silhouette matches.
Sunshine State Games - Annual multi-sport event featuring competitive shooting festivals in Bullseye Pistol, USPSA, Smallbore Silhouette, Cowboy Silhouette, Smallbore 3-Position, Air Rifle, Rimfire Benchrest, and trap/skeet disciplines.

Held yearly on the final Saturday in January. January 31, 2026 at Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club. Members receive voting ballots by mail in early January.
Second Amendment Advocacy - FSSA monitors and responds to firearms law changes. Recently tracked Florida's open carry ruling (McDaniel v. Florida, 2025) and Attorney General guidance on carry laws.
FSSA coordinates a year-round calendar of sanctioned matches. Recent recurring events include:
- •Camp Blanding matches - 3x20 at 600 and 1000 yards, XTC format, Pearl Harbor Commemorative
- •Chuluota matches - Monthly NRA Silhouette (Hunter's Pistol, Smallbore Rifle, Cowboy Rifle)
- •Geneva matches - Bigbore silhouette, smallbore, tiny targets at 200 meters
- •Sunshine State Games - September through November multi-discipline events
Match Entry Fees: Typically $5 per relay entry. Lunch often included.
FSSA operates under NRA guidance to:
1. Promote marksmanship - As both competitive sport and national defense fundamentals 2. Support state championships - And regional/sectional competitions 3. Develop shooting sports education - In secondary and collegiate school systems 4. Support Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) - Department of Defense marksmanship training 5. Assist range development - Planning, construction, and preservation of shooting facilities 6. Promote hunter safety - Training and conservation practices 7. Foster sportsmanship - Among competitive shooters statewide
