Full description and what we offer
Effingham County Sportsman's Club is a premier private shooting facility offering comprehensive recreational and competitive shooting opportunities near Altamont, Illinois.
Founded in 1953, Effingham County Sportsman's Club operates on 180 acres located approximately two miles west of Effingham, Illinois, just east of Lake Sara. The club is a not-for-profit, member-owned organization with over 600 members representing all walks of life.
The club hosts a diverse range of organized shooting events throughout the year:
The club regularly offers concealed carry classes, hunter safety courses, and benefit shoots. Non-members are always welcome and encouraged to attend organized events.
Members enjoy access to all club ranges during daylight hours, with extended night shooting on shotgun ranges. Recent upgrades include new steel targets at 300-yard and 500-yard bunker ranges. The facility features a clubhouse with bulletin boards for official club news and announcements. Access is from the north via 1025th Street (Sportsman's Drive).
While membership-based, the club welcomes new members. The organization operates entirely on a volunteer basis—from event coordination to grounds maintenance—helping keep membership fees affordable. A Board of Directors elected annually guides club operations, with board meetings held the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM.
