Michigan City Rifle Club has been operating since 1935, when members first gathered to shoot in an open field north of the South Shore Railway Car Barn. The club received two cabooses from South Shore Railway and used them for many years—that's why there's a caboose in the club's logo. Since moving to their current 14-acre property in 1950, they've become one of the oldest privately owned and operated shooting ranges in the state.
The club is volunteer-run and member-built. Construction of current facilities was done with volunteer labor and no-interest loans from membership, keeping dues affordable for shooters serious about the sport.
Michigan City Rifle Club is conveniently located on Highway 20, one half mile east of I-94, Exit 40A, in Michigan City, Indiana (P.O. Box 8586, Michigan City, IN 46361).
The main clubhouse features a heated indoor pistol range with 10 shooting stations at 50 feet. It's open to members 365 days a year, 24 hours a day—closed to general shooting only during scheduled events. All buildings have first aid kits and Automatic External Defibrillators.
A 50-position covered firing line with target placement at 25, 50, 100, and 200 yards. This outdoor range is also open 365 days a year (closed during scheduled events). An additional indoor restroom facility and meeting room are located at the firing line.
All ranges include: - Shooting benches and chairs - Paper target stands and steel targets - Classroom facilities and field-house - Picnic area with RV hookups - Security: Motion-activated camera system covering entire premises and building interiors - Member-only access via keycard
