Full description and what we offer
The Izaak Walton League's Linn County Chapter operates a volunteer-run facility dedicated to conservation, outdoor recreation, and shooting sports. Located at 5401 42nd Street NE in Cedar Rapids, the club sits on approximately 47 acres and serves roughly 725 members.
The facility includes multiple ranges managed by active committees:
Open 8am to 8pm (or sunset, whichever is earlier) for members, family, and guests. Gate access requires current membership and annual safety briefing completion—if your briefing lapses past April 1st, you lose access until documentation is current.
Annual safety briefings are mandatory. The 2026 schedule runs January through mid-January with multiple time slots (morning, afternoon, and evening options).
New members and those wanting to refresh their skills can contact specific committees:
| Service | Contact |
|---|---|
| Indoor Pistol Range qualification | [email protected] |
| Action Range setup | Walker Kelly (via committee) |
| Trap orientation | Trap Committee |
The trap range renovation is a major focus. Estimated cost: $250,000–$300,000. Brownell's in Grinnell has already donated one PAT Trap machine, and material vendors are contributing time and materials. As a 501(c)(3), donations are tax-deductible. Details and donation button at giveourkidsashot.com.
Members can use the Buy/Sell/Trade section on the website—email [email protected] to list items.
Beyond shooting sports, the club actively manages conservation efforts including an annual honey harvest (members can purchase at $7/pound) and environmental stewardship across the property.
