Michael Murphy and Sons

Michael Murphy & Sons started in 1974 when Michael Murphy got his Federal Firearms License and opened a small shop in a limestone barn near Abilene, Kansas. What began as a hobby evolved into one of the region's most respected shooting destinations.

In 1988, Murphy built Kansas's first sporting clays range—a landmark achievement. The facility featured 10 hand traps and immediately hosted the state's first Governor's Turkey Hunt Sporting Clay Shoot. The range was upgraded to automatic Kromsen traps in 1990, and Murphy went on to design sporting clay courses throughout the United States and Mexico.

Today, the range operates 10-20 stations plus 2 wobble stations, with trap and skeet fields available. The club hosts the Kansas State Sporting Clays Championship and has hosted the 2014 F.I.T.A.C. & 5-Stand Championship.

The gun store stocks over 2,500 firearms in a vault with constantly rotating inventory. They carry new and used firearms from top manufacturers:

The store occupies a hand-built limestone dairy barn over 100 years old, completely rebuilt and updated after a 2017 fire. The 6400 SW Hunter Road location sits just east of Wichita, providing what they call "a shooter's paradise" with modern facilities in a historic setting.
