Hunt with a Purpose

Hunt With A Purpose is a disabled veteran-owned outfitter based in Barrington, Rhode Island. John brings hands-on hunting experience and hunter safety certification to every trip, mentoring clients from complete beginners to seasoned hunters pursuing specific goals.

They operate on private land across three states:

• •Connecticut: 300-acre Zone 9 property with archery, crossbow, muzzleloader, shotgun, and rifle options
• •Massachusetts: Trophy buck territory overlooking large properties; 2018 saw a record 218-5/8" buck recorded in these zones
• •Rhode Island: Meat hunts on overpopulated properties—hunting with a direct conservation purpose

Spring turkey season (April 30–May 24) offers 1-on-1 guided experiences across Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Hunts start before sunrise and run through midday, using private farmland and properties. They also offer a 14-day New England Turkey Super Slam—hunt 6 states in one trip with optional side activities (offshore skeet shooting, Martha's Vineyard, Block Island trips) if you tag out early.

Guide Class & Hunting Experience (5 days): For advanced hunters or aspiring guides. Classroom and field instruction covers introducing new hunters, tracking, stand placement, weapon handling, and filming techniques.

New Hunter Experience (3 days): Designed to build knowledgeable, ethical hunters. Covers whitetail, turkey, and small game planning, animal behavior, weapon selection, spotting, tracking, and field dressing. Ages 12+ can hunt; younger kids welcome as observers.

Massachusetts Fall Bear Hunt: Hunts in the Berkshires with high success rates. Stand/blind hunting or spotting-and-stalking. Allows more weapon options than typical MA seasons (pistols and rifles permitted).

Step aboard the Thirsty Mermaid for inshore fishing in Long Island Sound and Fishers Island Sound. Full charters and split-charter options available for all experience levels.
