Location details and information
Chief Okemos Sportsman's Club operates a private members-only facility at 4667 North Gunnell Road in Dimondale, Michigan. Open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week, year-round.
The club maintains seven distinct ranges:
Rifle & Precision Shooting - One rifle range with targets positioned at 50, 100, and 200 yards - Two independently-controlled pistol ranges, each with 25-yard targets - One 7-yard pistol range (requires 30-minute Range Orientation taught by Jerry Shihady)
Specialty Shooting - One standard trap range with trap house and automatic target thrower - One falling plates range (handguns only; non-magnum rimfire and straight-wall pistol cartridges only)
Archery - One traditional archery range with 2D targets at varying distances - One 3D archery course featuring thirty life-size targets
COSC enforces strict range rules designed to keep everyone safe. All firearms must be made safe with magazines removed, actions open, and bright orange or yellow safety indicators inserted. Eye and ear protection is mandatory in the immediate vicinity. The facility uses a color-coded flag system: Yellow flags must be posted before anyone handles firearms, and a RED safety line marks the boundary—all shooting must occur from in front of it.
Uncased firearms, alcohol, smoking on the firing line, and exploding targets are prohibited. The club does not allow .50 cal. BMG or reactive targets like Tannerite, bouncers, or clay pigeons placed on the ground. Only commercially-made metal stationary targets approved by the Board may be used.
COSC functions as a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization governed by a Board of Directors with terms ending in 2026-2028. The club is family-friendly and allows up to two guests per membership (members must supervise all guests and act as Range Safety Officer). A 30-minute Range Orientation is required for members using the new 7-yard pistol range.
The club hosts organized programs across multiple disciplines:
Many programs currently need volunteer coordinators. Contact the club's leadership if interested in leading shooting sports.
