Detroit Sportsmens Congress

Detroit Sportsmen's Congress was established in Detroit in 1936 to promote hunting and fishing in Michigan. Today, DSC operates from two primary locations: a 106-acre range complex in Shelby Township on Dequindre Road (between M-59 and 23 Mile Road) and a 131-acre campground near Oxford, Michigan on pristine Horseshoe Lake.

The main facility has been at the Dequindre Road location since 1948. This is where you'll find:

Rifle Ranges - 20-point, 200-yard outdoor range with concrete shooting line - Three separate yardages: 50, 100, and 200 yards - Open weekends May-November (Sat/Sun), Sundays only Dec-April - Cash only at range

• •Non-members welcome May-September (Sat/Sun 11am-4pm) and December-April (Sun 11am-3pm). $1 environmental fee applies daily.

Pistol Ranges - Outdoor range: 25 covered firing stations + 7 separate firing bays (May-October) - Indoor range: 12 shooting stations with electrically controlled turning targets at 50 feet (October-April) - Open Friday-Sunday: Friday 10am-2pm, Saturday-Sunday 10am-2pm - USPSA, NRA Bullseye, and PPC events year-round - Range officers supervise all shooting. Targets and hearing protection available for purchase or at the Pro Shop.

Shotgun Ranges - Five NSSA legal skeet fields with state-of-the-art houses on the west side of the complex - Sporting clays described as "golf with a shotgun" — clay targets thrown at multiple stations, varying trajectories, angles, speeds, elevations, and distances - Skeet & Trap open: Wednesday 10am-6pm, Friday 4-8pm, Saturday-Sunday 10am-4pm (May-October)

Sporting Clays & 5-Stand

Seasonal hours: Nov 1-Mar 31 (Wed/Thu 10am-4pm, Sat/Sun 10am-3:30pm); Apr 1-Oct 31 (Wed/Thu 10am-5pm, Sat/Sun 10am-3:30pm).

Archery - 3-D range and outdoor practice range - Indoor range available hourly - Member rates: $7 flat rate (3-D/outdoor) or $7/hour (indoor) - Junior members: $5 flat rate / $5/hour indoor - Work hours rate: $5 flat rate / $5/hour indoor - Guest rates available; MBHA members receive $1 discount

Black Powder - Monday (Summer 6:30pm-Dusk, Winter 6pm-7:30pm) - Tuesday: 9am-3pm Mini Rendezvous - Thursday: 50 Yard Range - Member: $7 | Non-Member: $14 | Work Hours: $5 | Junior: $4

Cowboy Action - Cowboy Action practice and matches - Wild Bunch matches - 3-Gun matches - Service Rifle matches - Saturday 10am-2pm (Apr-Oct), Wednesday 6pm-Dusk (May-Sep)

Match fees: Juniors $5, DSC Members $10, Non-Members $20, Wolverine Rangers $15. Practice rates vary.

DSC contributes to community safety through certified instructors and training counselors available to both members and non-members.

Junior Programs

Friday evenings the club runs Junior Rifle and Junior Pistol programs. Juniors earn NRA training certifications, awards, patches, and medals for skill levels. "Postal" and "Shoulder to shoulder" matches teach marksmanship, concentration, patience, and safety.

Junior programs also offered in archery, shotgun, and rifle. Additional junior programs being developed.

Summer Leagues (May-September) Rifle runs three leagues twice weekly: - Service Rifle (AR-15s and M1s) - Sporting Rifle (hunting centerfire and rimfire) - Smallbore Silhouette (rimfire)

The DSC campground near Oxford, Michigan offers a scenic northern Michigan setting on a pristine 30-acre lake.

Facilities: - 190 campsites with water, electricity (up to 50 amp service), showers, restrooms, and dumping station - Baseball field, playground, basketball court, miniature golf, horseshoe pits - Seasonal fishing derbies and tournaments - Pavilion for parties and informal gatherings - Holiday weekend dances in the pavilion - Day use picnic area on the lake

The main facility on Dequindre Road includes a full-service members-only bar and clubhouse with regular events including trivia nights.

DSC offers reduced range rates for members participating in work bees. Contact the DSC Office for details on how to earn work hour credits.
