Regular Monthly Matches - USPSA pistol matches held on the 3rd Saturday at NRF (Brooklyn) - DSSA pistol matches in Biloxi - BNA pistol matches in Hattiesburg - SMPSA matches in Poplarville - 3-Gun competitions - Rifle matches - Shotgun matches
Special Events - Classifier matches (6-stage format for skill evaluation and ranking) - Level I USPSA events with multiple stages and full scoring - Summer early-start matches (8:00 AM start time to avoid heat)
The organization occasionally hosts collaborative multi-club matches featuring 10+ stages and attracting shooters from across the region.
The association arranges Certified Range Officer (CRO) certification classes for shooters who have already passed the USPSA RO (Range Officer) exam. CRO training teaches officials how to run matches at higher competitive levels. Recent classes included instruction from Troy McManus, Director of the National Range Officers Institute. Cost is typically $60 per person with class size limited to 20 participants. CRO certification is the way to give back to the sport by helping run competitive events.
South Mississippi shooters receive slot allocations to compete at USPSA Nationals:
Slots are awarded to Mississippi Section members who competed in local matches during 2023 or out-of-state residents who supported local matches. Slot requests are made through Practiscore and distribution is NOT first-come, first-served.
The organization maintains detailed online score tracking and results databases:
Site Stats: 246,933+ hits since December 27, 2011 — showing consistent traffic from competitive shooters tracking matches and results
The association provides resources for shooters new to competition: - USPSA pistol competition guides - 3-Gun information and rules - Match rules and procedures - About USPSA overview - RO (Range Officer) and CRO certification pathways
South Mississippi Practical Shooting connects shooters with related organizations including the Brian Enos forum, BayouShooter.com, and Mississippi Gun Owners forum. The association coordinates with clubs throughout South Mississippi and Louisiana (including Tangipohoa Practical Shooters in LA).
