Own Countrybow?
01 // DETAILS
Full description and what we offer
Countrybow cuts through the confusion around crossbow hunting in Florida. Whether you're new to the sport or brushing up on this year's regulations, you'll find what you need to hunt legally and ethically across the Sunshine State.
Florida crossbow hunting requires three things to be legal:
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Minimum Draw Weight | 35 pounds minimum |
| Bolt & Broadhead | Broadhead-tipped bolts mandatory for game |
| Permits & License | Hunting license + crossbow permit during archery season |
Transport rules are strict: carrying a loaded crossbow in your vehicle or across public roads is illegal. Keep it unloaded, period.
Crossbow season typically kicks off before general gun season, giving you early access to the field. Dates vary by zone and game type, so checking the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) calendar isn't optional—it's essential.
Hunting location matters:
Not sure which zone you're hunting? The FWC's interactive map shows area-specific dates and restrictions. Different zones = different seasons. Check before you go.
Your equipment has to meet the standard. That 35-pound minimum draw weight isn't a suggestion—it's the law. Bolts must have broadhead tips; field points don't cut it for game hunting.
Countrybow covers the technical side:
Why hunters choose crossbows: - Extended seasons in some areas - More stable platform = more accurate shots - Accessible for hunters with physical limitations that make traditional bow draw difficult
The trade-offs: - Heavier and bulkier than traditional bows - Slower reload means fewer shots per encounter - Location and game restrictions apply
Age & Supervision: Florida doesn't set a minimum age for crossbow hunting, but hunters under 16 must be supervised by an adult. All hunters need hunter safety certification regardless of age.
Disability Exemptions: If you have a physical impairment, Florida offers disability exemptions allowing crossbow use during archery season. You'll need physician certification submitted to the FWC.
General Gun Season: You can use a crossbow during general gun season too—more flexibility, more opportunities.
Staying legal is step one. Actually finding and taking game is step two.
Real talk: Regulations aren't fun-killers—they're ecosystem protectors. Florida's rules exist to ensure wildlife populations stay healthy and hunting stays sustainable for everyone.
Do This: - Keep your crossbow well-maintained - Use proper bolts and broadheads that meet specs - Get all necessary licenses and permits upfront - Wear safety gear and practice safe shooting - Transport unloaded only
Never Do This: - Use a crossbow below 35-pound draw weight - Hunt outside specified seasons and zones - Trespass on private land without permission - Carry a loaded crossbow on public roads or in vehicles - Ignore the Miami-Dade County restrictions
Crossbow hunting in Florida works when you know the rules cold. Countrybow walks you through every requirement so you can focus on what matters: making ethical shots and bringing home game. Stay sharp, stay legal, keep those bolts flying true.
