Castlewood Rod & Gun Club was established in 1953 and has grown to over 350 active members. Located 4 miles east of New Castle, PA and 2 miles south of Route 422, the club sits on more than 100 acres of rolling hills with varied terrain and cover—the actual grounds you need for quality shooting.
Sporting Clays - Two separate courses with up to 20 stations each - Courses change monthly to challenge shooters of all skill levels - New "Woods Course": 17-station wireless self-service course in southwest wooded area (members only, available 9 AM to dusk daily except Nov 1 - April 1) - Open Sundays 9 AM-3 PM and Tuesdays noon-5 PM to the public - NSCA registered events and leagues throughout the year
Pistol Ranges Seven outdoor bays with different configurations: - Knockdown 6-plate rack setup - .22 caliber swing targets - Paper target frames - Four additional bays for club-sanctioned events
Indoor pistol facility hosts weekly Thursday night shoots and club activities. Range open 8 AM to dusk daily.
Other Ranges - 5-Stand with wobble trap - 5-Stand with 6 automatic throwers and 5 levels of games - Trap and Skeet fields - Rifle range to 500+ meters - Archery towers (program currently on hold)

Castlewood hosts NSCA leagues, USPSA matches, Steel Challenge events, Lucky Target Turkey Shoots (indoor), and fun leagues with six different courses that can be shot anytime the club is open. Winter leagues run January-May; summer leagues June-October.

Indoor .22 (Ages 8+) - January through mid-March, weekly Monday nights - Benchrest style bullseye targets - Mandatory 2-hour safety meeting first night
Air Rifle (Ages 8+) - February through early August, twice monthly Monday evenings 6-8 PM - Meets same times as Shotgun program (can't do both) - 2 two-hour safety courses required for new members
Shotgun Shooting Sports (Ages 10+) - February through early August, twice monthly Monday evenings 6-8 PM - Start with going-away targets, progress to Skeet, then Sporting Clays - Loaner shotguns available (thanks to Friends of the NRA grants) - 2 two-hour safety courses required for new members
Recent Youth Achievements
Castlewood's "Clay Crushers" team competes at the Scholastic Clay Target Program National Championship held each July in Marengo, Ohio. This year the club sent 21 competitors—up from just 3 four years ago. Highlights include:
Danny Harrison finished 7th out of 210 in Intermediate Advanced Division—4th highest score by a PA resident Leah Bish finished 8th out of 50 ladies in Intermediate Advanced—highest ladies score by a PA resident in her division Team placements: 6th in Entry Intermediate Squad, 16th in Intermediate Advanced, 21st & 31st in Junior Varsity, 39th & 160th in Senior Varsity
Youth also compete at events like the World Sporting Clays Championship (2000+ global participants, $250k prize payouts) and various SCTP state shoots.
New Members - First year cost: $135 (covers year one dues, initiation fee, gate card deposit) - Gate card provides 365-day access to club grounds - Must have a sponsor who's been a member in good standing for minimum 5 years - Application process: Attend monthly membership meeting (1st Monday of month, 7:30 PM) OR visit Sunday 9 AM-2 PM to speak with an officer - Applications no longer accepted by mail
Renewing Members - 2025 dues: $100 (payable now through January 31) - Late fee: $10 if not paid by Jan 31; additional fee possible if not paid by July membership meeting - Work discounts available (note function worked) - Pay at counter or mail to P.O. Box 7411, New Castle, PA 16107
