Full description and what we offer
The Quantico Shooting Club operates as an all-volunteer, member-only organization using the Calvin A. Lloyd range complex on Marine Corps Base Quantico during weekends. Founded over 75 years ago, QSC has built a reputation around safety, sportsmanship, marksmanship, and excellence—values it shares with its Marine host installation.
QSC provides access to rifle, pistol, and shotgun ranges with specific capabilities:
| Range | Distance | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Range 1 | 320 yards | General rifle |
| Ranges 2 & 3 | 600 yards | Mid-range rifle |
| Range 4 | 1,000 yards | Long-range precision |
| SAT Range | 35 yards | Small arms training |
| Ironman Range | 450 yards | PRS training & matches |
| Shotgun Fields | N/A | American skeet (2 fields), American trap (1 field) |
Note: The International (Bunker) Trap field is currently inoperable pending high-cost repairs.
QSC hosts a variety of sanctioned competitions throughout the year:
Match attendees receive guest privileges. Match schedules and sign-ups are posted on Practiscore a week in advance.
Shotgun field hours typically run 0900-1300 on scheduled weekends. One game (25 rounds) costs $6. Members need scan cards to activate payment readers at American skeet fields.
Shotgun Field Rules: - Children under 8 prohibited when range is hot - Children 8-18 require continuous parent/guardian supervision - Only 7.5, 8, and 9 shot allowed (no slugs, nothing larger than 7.5) - Shoulder stocks, barrels longer than 24 inches - Auto-loaders/pump actions: maximum 2 shells loaded at a time - Hearing and eye protection required
Guest Policy: - $20 per day range fee (credited toward membership if purchased same day) - Maximum 3 guests per member per day - Guests limited to 2 visits per member in 365-day period (match attendees exempt) - Day pass required from MCB Quantico Visitor Control Center: (703) 784-3023
This is a restricted military installation. Civilians cannot simply drive onto the base.
Associate Members must obtain a DBIDS card from the Marine Corps Base Quantico Visitor Control Center at 27031 Telegraph Road, Stafford, VA 22556.
Critical Firearm Rules on MCBQ: - No concealed carry (Federal Law Enforcement Officers excepted) - No fully automatic fire or full-auto simulation - Form 4 NFA SBRs and suppressors allowed - No binary triggers - Specific transport protocols required
QSC does not sell, rent, loan, or store weapons or ammunition per MCBQ regulations.
QSC runs an all-volunteer RSO cadre based on NRA training standards with USMC requirements. RSOs receive: - No-cost membership renewals if they open and operate 6 ranges - OIC/RSO Certification Training (in-person, includes hands-on firearm types) - Discretionary authority over range operations, including early closure for safety or weather
Non-match ranges are posted Thursday nights for the coming weekend. Matches appear on the calendar months in advance due to MCBQ approval requirements. Always check the calendar before arriving—Range Control can cancel ranges at the last minute, and volunteer RSOs may close ranges early due to weather, safety concerns, or lack of participation.
Call ahead during winter or severe weather—ranges/office may close earlier than posted.
QSC is strictly volunteer-run and open weekends only. It's not a commercial range and cannot operate like one. There's no formal firearms instruction due to insurance restrictions, but informal safety and fundamentals instruction available for new shooters. All members participate in upholding the club's standards for safety, sportsmanship, and marksmanship.
The club emphasizes patience: email responses may take time since everyone has day jobs. But for shooters seeking competitive rifle, pistol, and shotgun ranges with sanctioned match events in Northern Virginia, QSC's facility access and volunteer community are unmatched for serious shooters willing to navigate MCBQ base procedures.
