Full description and what we offer
Pataha Rustlers operates as a sanctioned SASS (Single Action Shooting Society) club near Dayton, Washington. The club hosts competitive cowboy action shooting matches that attract shooters of all ages and skill levels—from complete beginners to experienced competitors.
Monthly Matches - 2nd Saturday of each month - Family-friendly competition in the Old West tradition - Tests speed and accuracy across multiple shooting stages
Annual Match - "For the Heck of It" - May 7-10, 2026 (next scheduled event)
One of the biggest misconceptions about cowboy action shooting is that you need to own everything before showing up. Pataha Rustlers shooters actively loan firearms and leather gear to newcomers. Most people start by:
1. Watching a match or two to see what it's about 2. Talking to club members about what you'd need 3. Borrowing basics to try it out first 4. Then deciding what to purchase based on what you actually want to shoot
The Golden Rule: Don't buy guns until you know what you want to shoot. Different SASS categories have different firearm requirements, and you don't need all of it at once.
Cowboy Action Shooting™ minimum category: - 2 single action revolvers - 1 lever action rifle (pistol caliber) - 1 shotgun (side-by-side or pump)
Wild Bunch Action Shooting™ minimum category: - 1 1911 handgun - 1 lever action rifle (pistol caliber) - 1 shotgun
Costuming is part of the experience at Pataha Rustlers. Competitors dress in period-appropriate Old West attire or B-western movie style clothing. This isn't about extreme authenticity—it's about participation and celebrating the tradition:
