Portage Rod & Gun Club

Portage Rod & Gun Club sits on Highway 16 just west of Portage, Wisconsin—easy access from I-39 exits 89B (southbound) and 89C (northbound). This member-run facility operates year-round with multiple shooting disciplines under one roof.

Cost: $50/year (January–December, no proration)

Work requirement: 4 hours annually per member (can buy out for $50)

What's included: Full access to all ranges for you, spouse, and children under 18. Guests can purchase one-day passes for $10 (must be accompanied by active member).

Gate security: Members receive combination code after verifying work hours from prior year. Gate stays locked except during specific events (IDPA shoots, ATA shoots, Hunter Safety Education, Snowmobile Safety Education).

Membership purchases: Available at the clubhouse during operating hours or at D.W. Sports Center in downtown Portage.

The hall is 30' × 55' and accommodates up to 200 guests for weddings, parties, corporate functions, and banquets. Features include central air conditioning, ample seating, and a separate bar with two wide-screen TVs.

The club operates on self-policing—there are no full-time Range Safety Officers. Members are expected to know and follow all club rules before using facilities:

• •Safety first: All federal, state, and local firearm laws must be obeyed
• •Eyes and ears mandatory: Safety glasses and hearing protection required for all shooters and spectators
• •Cold/Hot range system: Ranges stay cold until all shooters unanimously agree to go hot
• •Ammunition restrictions: No tracer, incendiary, armor-piercing, or steel-core rounds
• •Metal targets: AR400 or AR500 steel only, properly mounted at angles to deflect debris downward
• •No alcohol on ranges: Strictly prohibited during shooting
• •Brass management: Members sort spent cases into provided containers; brass on the range belongs to the club

NRA-affiliated club

• •Active military on leave may use ranges without membership if credentials and leave pass are on hand
• •Dependents (spouse, children, grandchildren up to 18) get guest privileges under member sponsorship
• •Bow season hunting: portable stands only (set up 1 month before season, remove by January 15)
• •No pets allowed inside clubhouse
