Wilderness Whitetails isn't a typical hunting ranch. What started in 1977 as the Flees family's whitetail genetics program evolved into a trophy hunting operation in 1999 when Greg and Shorty Flees began seeing the results of their meticulous selective breeding program on their Wisconsin property. Their first 200-inch buck appeared in 1989—when such deer were essentially unheard of. Today, 200-inch bucks on the property are as common as 160-inch bucks were decades ago.
"Nobody offers bigger, more impressive whitetails. Nor a better hunting experience. Wilderness Whitetails has the biggest bucks you will ever see."
Unlike most whitetail ranches, every deer at Wilderness Whitetails is born on the property. No outside deer are ever brought in. Your target buck spent its entire life learning to evade hunters across the 1,000+ acres of cedar swamps, hardwood stands, rolling hills, and grassy openings. This creates a genuinely challenging hunt.
Some of the legendary bucks—eight and nine-year-old swamp dwellers—are so elusive that guides and cameras rarely document them. They go nocturnal at the start of season, hide in impenetrable swamps, or simply vanish. When a hunter connects with one, it's a legitimate achievement. In 2013, a hunter named Jack took a 211-4/8" non-typical that had been hunted hard for six years. The buck was nine years old.
| Method | Setup | Success Rate |
|---|---|---|
| Rifle | Comfortable spacious blinds in key travel routes | Highly effective |
| Muzzleloader | Strategically positioned at feeding areas | Effective |
| Archery | 30+ tree stands + ground blinds | 90%+ success rate |
| Handgun | Tree stands for close encounters | Specialized |
For bowhunters, there's nothing quite like a 200- or 300-inch whitetail walking past at eye level from a tree stand. Greg and Shorty Flees are passionate bowhunters themselves, so they know where to position stands for maximum opportunity. If weather or slow movement makes archery difficult, hunters can switch to ranch rifles.
Wilderness Whitetails operates two separate lodges on the property, capable of handling large corporate groups or small private family gatherings. The lodges feature:
Brock Lesnar (MMA champion) and Ben Carter (Executive Director of the Dallas Safari Club) both hunted here and took 200+ inch typical 8-pointers. Carter summed it up: "It is 'Whitetail Heaven' with the perfect Whitetail environment that makes this a challenging hunt for that special dream Whitetail."
This is a real hunt, not a canned experience. Expect:
