Colfax Sportsmen's Club is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization running the Dunn County Public Shooting Complex at E8498 810th Ave, Colfax, WI 54730—just 2 miles south of town on US Hwy 40. It's member-owned and operated, welcoming both experienced competitors and newcomers to everything from casual range time to sanctioned tournaments.

The club hosts multiple disciplines:

  • Steel Challenge - SCSA-affiliated sanctioned matches with 6 stages on weekends and 4 stages Thursday matches. Weekend and weekday formats spring through fall. PractiScore registration available.
  • 3-Gun - Rifle, pistol, and shotgun combined matches with paper, steel, and clay targets. Typically 3+ stages with competitor check-in at 7 AM and shooter's meeting at 8 AM. Entry: $30 non-members, $25 members, $15 juniors (17 and under).
  • Trap Shooting - Open trap events including the Frozen Finger Trap Shoot in January.
  • Bowling Pin Matches - Double elimination head-to-head pin shooting in 9 divisions (rimfire rifle/pistol, centerfire minor/major/magnum, shotgun, PCC, centerfire rifle, 2-man teams). $10 per division, registration 8-9 AM, matches at 9:30 AM rain or shine.
  • NRL22 - Monthly sanctioned rimfire competition (Colfax NRL22 Monthly COF) with 5 designated stages plus possible bonus rounds.
  • Speed Freak Rimfire - Dedicated rimfire action shooting events.
  • Public Shooting Hours - Open range access Wednesdays and Saturdays 1-4 PM (firearms must be cased, eye/ear protection required).
  • Scholastic Action Shooting Team (1st-12th grade) - Certified program focusing on safe firearm handling, fair play, sportsmanship, self-discipline, and individual responsibility. Coached by Annie Berger.

Clubhouse with registration, food service, and concessions on site. Fire pits and hot cocoa at winter events. NRA-certified and NROI-certified range officers staff events.

For 3-Gun: Semi-auto pistols (9mm+), semi-auto or pump shotguns (12ga/20ga), AR-platform rifles (.223/5.56 or .308), PCC options. Bring 2-4 magazines per firearm, good belt with holster, mag pouches, shotgun shell caddies, 150+ rounds per gun. No steel-core ammunition allowed.

For all events: Eye and ear protection required for competitors and spectators.

Steel Challenge follows SCSA rulebook (available through USPSA). 3-Gun follows United Multi-Gun League (UML) rules. Range officers enforce safety violations strictly—violators are dismissed with no refund.
