Peter M. Friedman has been training handgun students for over 50 years, including military personnel, law enforcement, and civilians across California. His experience as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff in Los Angeles County (1967) and San Bernardino County (1979-1984), combined with current volunteer work with Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office, shapes every lesson.
Friedman Firearms Training offers one-on-one CCW courses approved by Contra Costa County, Santa Clara County, Lake County, and numerous police departments.
Initial License Course (16 hours): $420.00 - Classroom instruction in Pleasant Hill (or mobile to your location with travel fee) - Live-fire exercises on a local range - Covers mental health, firearm safety, handling, shooting technique, and California weapons law - Course completion certificate provided for sheriff application - Firearms recommended: Glock 26 or Glock 19 (no single-action pistols allowed in Contra Costa) - Ammunition: Factory fresh 9MM 115 Grain FMJ or JHP only—no reloads
Renewal Course (8 hours): $220.00 - Meets SB2 minimum requirements - Same live-fire and safety certification process

Hands-on training designed for civilians who rarely get this type of instruction. Uses PowerPoint, video scenarios, role-playing, and situational awareness drills in realistic settings: - Restaurants and malls - Street environments - Travel situations - Home and workplace applications
Rose Friedman created animated video lessons covering the fundamentals of shooting: - Aiming & Shooting — Dominant eye, sight alignment, front/rear sights, ammunition quality - Grip & Hold Control — Revolver vs. semi-auto grip, pressure ratios, stance (Weaver and Isosceles), bore sight laser setup - Trigger Control — Single and double action triggers, the surprise break, grip pressure management - Stance & Bench Rest Positions — For sighting in, training, and home defense - Follow-Through — Firing sequence, common errors, drills - Breath Control — Why breathing affects accuracy and how to control it

Instructors will discuss your needs and recommend appropriate firearms. The program has an affiliation with City Arms (Pleasant Hill) to assist with purchases.
Friedman's core mission: ensure law-abiding citizens exercise their 2nd Amendment right to own and bear arms for self-protection, and that gun owners maintain proficiency in safe and competent firearm use.
The organization actively supports the 100 Club, which provides immediate financial assistance to families of slain law enforcement and firefighters.
