Location details and information
Oak Tree Gun Club started in 1973 when founder Booge Mercer opened the club with four trap fields, two skeet fields, and a vision: a safe place for recreational shooters. She converted it from private to public in the mid-1970s, added a clubhouse with a restaurant and bar, and created a shooting destination that attracted Hollywood names like Charlton Heston, Roy Rogers, Steven Spielberg, and Arnold Schwarzenegger in its earliest days.
When Booge passed in 1999, longtime shooter Jim Mitchell purchased the club and transformed it into what he called "an amusement park for shooters." His daughters Betsy James and Katie Mitchell now run the operation as California Gun Girls, LLC, continuing the tradition with modern facilities and a 40+ person staff.
Oak Tree sits on privately owned land nestled between Interstate 5 and the Santa Susana Mountains in the Santa Clarita Valley.
