Mission Skeet & Trap Club started as the McAllen Gun Club in 1964 and has been a staple for recreational and competitive shooting ever since. Operating as a nonprofit, the club sits just ½ mile south of Expressway 83 on Conway Avenue (FM 1016)—easy to find with club signs marking the west side of the road.
The facility covers multiple disciplines:
- •Skeet and Trap - Primary disciplines with recently upgraded equipment including a brand-new trap machine on Skeet Field #1
- •5-Stand - Set up by Master instructor Steve Schultz
- •Archery Range - Member-exclusive access
- •Pistol Range - Open to both members and the general public
Members report the grounds are well-maintained with covered seating areas and coin-operated skeet ranges that make walk-on shooting efficient.
The South Texas Competitive Shooting Team secured a MidwayUSA Foundation Range Development Grant, bringing new sporting clays machines and improved training equipment. Ongoing improvements include parking enhancements, archery range expansion, and golf cart storage facilities—all part of a long-term plan to strengthen the venue for youth athletes and the broader shooting community.
Public Access: Open Sundays and Wednesdays, noon to sunset. No membership required to use the pistol range.
Ear and eye protection are required. The club runs a range orientation and safety program for all shooters. Monthly board meetings are open to members and anyone interested in joining—the club actively invites participation in its growth.
Membership Benefits: - Discounted shooting fees - Exclusive archery range access - Entry to competitions and events - Access to club facilities and monthly meetings
"It has one of the friendliest pistol ranges in South Texas. I have introduced a lot of family and friends to shooting at this range, only a mile from my home." - Rich Roth
