Adventure West Council's Range and Target Activities (RATA) program delivers certified instruction in archery, BB guns, slingshots, throwing sports, rifle, shotgun, and pistol shooting—all following national safety standards. Their focus is straightforward: equip volunteer leaders with the knowledge and certifications to run safe ranges and teach youth effectively.
Rata offers instructor-level and range management certifications:
- •Cub Scout Rangemaster Training - Required certification for anyone supervising BB gun, slingshot, or archery ranges at district/council events
- •USA Archery Level 1 - Blended online and in-person course covering safe range operation and beginner instruction
- •Rifle, Shotgun & Pistol Instructor Training - Classroom and live-fire components covering safety, fundamentals, teaching techniques, and shooting qualification
- •Muzzleloader Co-Op Instructor Training - Certification for basic muzzleloader course instruction
- •Range Safety Officer (RSO) - NRA-based training on range supervision, SOPs, inspections, and emergency procedures
- •Chief Range Safety Officer (CRSO) - Instructor-level course for certifying other RSOs and overseeing range operations
- •Home Firearm Safety - Fundamentals of safe handling, storage, and responsible use in the home
Rata runs hands-on events throughout the year:

Volunteers Needed - No prior experience required. Join the leadership team to help run events and mentor youth in archery, BB guns, slingshots, throwing sports, and firearms safety.
