Wild Bunch Action Shooting (WBAS) uses 1911-style handguns instead of revolvers but follows similar stages and rules.
Don't buy guns before attending a match. Most SASS shooters will loan firearms and leather gear to new competitors. Watch a match first, ask questions, meet the community.

All shooters must wear period-appropriate costume. For Cowboy Action Shooting, minimal requirements include:
Clothing must be typical of late 19th century or B-western movies. Wild Bunch competitors wear early 20th century attire, with emphasis on 1900-1916 U.S. military dress or Edwardian fashion.
"The Spirit of the Game" is SASS's core philosophy—competitors fully participate by dressing the part, using appropriate firearms, and respecting Old West traditions. It's competitive shooting meets historical celebration.
SASS serves as the international sanctioning body with close to 500 affiliated clubs worldwide. The organization:
SASS offers shooting categories for different skill levels, ages, and shooting styles—from Classic Cowboy to B-Western to category-specific disciplines. Entry fees and match times vary by event.
The club taps into SASS's family-oriented community. You'll find experienced shooters eager to mentor newcomers, a structured but friendly competition format, and the unique appeal of Alaska's midnight sun during the July state championship.
