Gunnison Sportsmen's Association operates a full-facility shooting range 2 miles west of Gunnison (881 County Road 18) that's been the area's primary public shooting destination since the 1970s. This is a member-run operation with real infrastructure: indoor pistol ranges, outdoor rifle bays, trap fields, skeet ranges, and archery stations.
Disciplines Available: - Trap shooting (informal Saturdays and Sundays) - Skeet shooting (Friday 5:30 PM, Saturday 9 AM, Sunday 9 AM; Thursday afternoon in summer) - Bullseye pistol (Friday nights year-round at 7 PM) - USPSA practical pistol matches (monthly, 10 AM) - Steel Challenge pistol (monthly, 10 AM) - USPSA 3-Gun Multi-Gun matches (first Sunday of month, 10 AM) - Rifle shooting (including 600-yard range) - Indoor and outdoor pistol ranges - Archery
Before each of Colorado's three big-game seasons, GSA hosts public sight-in days Wednesday-Friday. The association provides: - Target frames and holders - Hearing protection - Bench rests and firearm supports in the rifle house - Members available to assist
Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit Classes - One-day, 8-hour course for Gunnison County residents - Covers firearms safety, Colorado law, handgun and accessory selection, shooting fundamentals - 100 rounds of live fire practice with NRA certified pistol instructor - Typically $150 (prices vary) - Graduates receive certificate for Gunnison County Sheriff's Office - Students supply their own center fire handgun, holster, and 100 rounds of ammunition
Women on Target - Women-only shooting and hunting instruction - Safe, supportive learning environment - Aligned with NRA Women on Target mission
Pee Wee Gun Club - Ages 8-21 - Operates since the early 1950s - NRA certified instructors - .22 caliber bolt-action rifles in indoor range - All equipment and ammunition provided - $1 one-time fee + daily ammunition charge - Average daily class size 4-6 students, annual enrollment 30-35
GSA hosts the Colorado State Bullseye Pistol Championship and Colorado State USPSA Championship
