Oak Park Sportsmen's Club operates as a members-only facility dedicated to wildlife conservation and outdoor recreation in Plainfield, Illinois. Located at 14732 Frontage Rd, OPSC coordinates individual effort toward game propagation, habitat restoration, and firearms safety education. The club's mission extends beyond shooting sports—they work with the Department of Conservation, promote wildlife conservation doctrines, and protect Second Amendment rights.
The club runs organized matches across multiple disciplines:
IDPA Defensive Pistol - First Sunday, May through November - Six stages with practical, real-world self-defense scenarios - $5 members / $25 non-members per match - 108 rounds required (bring 200 to be safe) - Cold range with mandatory eye and hearing protection - SERPA-style and soft ballistic nylon holsters prohibited
USPSA Practical Shooting - Timed competitive pistol matches throughout the season - Multiple divisions and skill levels - Online registration opens Saturday at 5pm, one week prior - Matches 8:00 AM check-in, 9:00 AM start, finish by 2:00 PM
Cowboy Action Shooting - Third Sunday, May through November - Single action revolvers, lever action rifles, side-by-side shotguns - Six stages with reactive steel and cardboard silhouettes - $10 members / $15 non-members - Round count: 60 revolver, 60 rifle, 24 shotgun minimum
Managed by NRA Rifle Instructor Dave Turcotte, the winter air gun program runs November through April.
A core activity at OPSC with both 2D and 3D targets across outdoor ranges. Archery members typically gather the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month. Loaner equipment and experienced mentors available for beginners. Contact Dan Richmond for details.
On-site catch-and-release fishing on club property. Illinois fishing license required (age 16+). Personal flotation devices mandatory if using club boats, especially for children. No live minnows; nightcrawlers recommended for largemouth bass.
Special events designed to introduce and support female shooters and outdoor enthusiasts.
