Juniors Program - Maryland Rifle Club

Founded January 27, 1933, Maryland Rifle Club is the oldest charter member club in the Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore. What started nearly a century ago has grown into a serious competitive shooting organization while staying true to their original mission: safe enjoyment of the shooting sports.

• •High Power Coaching & Competition - MRC is one of the few clubs in the Baltimore area offering individual coaching for high power shooters at all levels—novice through master—for both juniors and adults. The club actively builds competitive teams and has produced more members of the Maryland State Rifle Team than any other club in the state.

• •Juniors Program with Real Support - The club runs shooting clinics specifically for junior members and fields junior rifle teams. Where possible, MRC provides subsidies and scholarships to help young shooters participate. The club doesn't just admit juniors—it invests in their development.

• •Vintage Military Rifle Matches - MRC is the only AGC club authorized to host matches for military rifles classified as curios or relics by the ATF. If you own an M1 Garand, M1903 Springfield, Mauser, Enfield, Mosin-Nagant, or similar historic rifle, these matches offer a relaxed introduction to high power competition.

These unique events trace back to 1919 (officially recognized in 1936) as the Infantry Trophy Match. The "Rattle Battle" name comes from the rapid-fire cadence. Here's how it works:

• •6-person teams fire simultaneously within tight time windows
• •60 total rounds across four distances
• •45 seconds at 500-600 yards (prone, E-Silhouettes)
• •45 seconds at 500 yards (prone, E-Silhouettes)
• •60 seconds at 300 yards (sitting/kneeling, F-Silhouettes)
• •60 seconds at 200 yards (standing, F-Silhouettes)
• •Maximum possible score: 180 points

Members access the AGC's outdoor range complex featuring:

• •50-yard pistol range (50 shooting stations)
• •100-yard rifle range (100 shooting stations)
• •200-yard rifle range (10 shooting stations)
• •Archery range (multi-station walking course)
• •Trap range (5 fields of fire)
• •Memorial Hall (indoor air rifle and pistol range in upper clubhouse)
• •Two clubhouses with full amenities, suitable for training and meetings

While high power service rifle competition is the primary focus, MRC members actively participate in:

• •Pistol and Air Pistol

• •Black Powder Cartridge Rifle
• •Black Powder Muzzleloading
• •Trap (Shotgun Shooting)
• •Archery

• •No Mandatory Meetings - Run entirely by volunteers, MRC has no required attendance at any events.

• •No External Memberships Required - You don't need to be an NRA member or belong to any other organization.

• •CMP Affiliation - MRC membership satisfies the Civilian Marksmanship Program's requirements for purchasing CMP rifles (M1 Garand, Model 1911) and ammunition.

• •Membership Eligibility - Standard federal requirements apply. Members must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents, at least 18 years old, with no felony convictions, domestic violence convictions, or disqualifying conditions under 18 U.S.C. §922(g).

• •Annual Renewal - Calendar-year membership required to maintain good standing and purchase an annual AGC range badge.

• •Jon Grove Memorial Match - Held annually in late summer, this match is limited to 40 competitors and honors a former MRC Trustee and longtime competition shooter. Match fee ($25) is donated entirely to the Jon Grove memorial scholarship fund, which awards scholarships to Maryland high school seniors. In 2017, a $2,500 scholarship was awarded.
