Desert Marksmen Rifle and Pistol Club, Inc. has been a California Non-Profit Corporation since July 1st, 1958. Located near Lancaster, California, the club operates a multi-discipline shooting facility with matches open to the public for participation or spectating.
The club hosts organized competitions and practice matches across:
Their NRA-certified bullseye league runs April through October on the 2nd Saturday. Matches cost $10 per entry and run about 5 hours including lunch break. Shooters fire 180 rounds total: 90 rounds in an "any pistol" match (typically .22) plus 90 rounds center-fire. Registration starts at 8:30 AM with safety briefing at 8:45 AM. Matches use B-6 targets at 50 yards and B-8 targets at 25 yards.
Affiliated with the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS), Cowboy Action events feature old-school Western-themed firearms—late 19th century style rifles, pistols, and shotguns. Competitors create personas and navigate varied stages with stationary and reactive targets. Side matches include long-range rifle, pocket pistol, derringer, and non-shooting costume events. Gate opens 8 AM to 4 PM for match days.
Runs on the 2nd Sunday of every month at $10 per shooter. This IDPA-style match teaches beginner through advanced skills using scenario-based stages. Topics covered include presentation, reloading, close-contact through 25-yard shooting, after-action drills, malfunction clearing, and combat mindset. Mandatory safety briefing at 9:00 AM, matches end around 2 PM. Beginners welcome—new shooters can use basic equipment like pants pockets for magazines.
Mandatory gear: handgun with holster (rigid belt), 3+ magazines with belt pouches for 2, eye protection, and hearing protection (electronic muffs preferred).
Matches begin at 8 AM on the 3rd Saturday of each month, April through December. Two categories available:
| Category | Rifles Allowed |
|---|---|
| Service Rifle | M-1 Garand, M-14 (M1-A), M-16 (AR-15) with iron sights |
| Match Rifle | Any iron-sighted center fire with 5+ round magazine |
Range orientation is mandatory for new members before receiving the membership packet. Annual dues run July 1st to June 30th, with pro-rated fees for joining mid-year. Members get:
Cell service: Verizon works well at the range; AT&T is spotty depending on phone brand.
PDF maps available on their website. Club rules, safety guidelines, FAQs, and guest policies posted online. A lost & found section handles misplaced items. Equipment can be viewed in their picture gallery.
Black Powder and Small Bore matches typically run the 1st Sunday. NRL-22 matches the 2nd Sunday. Practical Pistol matches 2nd Saturday. Bullseye clinics run 2nd weekend. Cowboy Action 3rd Sunday. Urban Tactical and High Power 3rd Saturday. 1,000-yard and Tactical Rifle events rotate through the month with full range closures.
Club motto: "Members and employees do not discriminate by segregation, refusing membership, or curtailing participation, against members, prospective members, family members, guests or visitors on the basis of race, religion, color, creed, national origin, age, disability, sex, or sexual preference."
