Rockford Sportsman's Club started in 1945 when returning WWII veterans from the Rockford area met at the Corner Bar to share a love of shooting sports and the outdoors. Nearly 80 years later, the club operates on 40 acres just north of 13-Mile Road on Northland Drive, minutes from Grand Rapids, Sparta, and Comstock Park.
Every structure—the clubhouse, shoot building, and range facilities—was built through volunteer labor by active members. Today the club serves over 200 member families.
Most activities are open to the public and allow one-time shooters:
| Program | Details |
|---|---|
| IDPA Defensive Pistol | Tactical pistol shooting |
| Military (CMP) Rifle League | Civilian Marksmanship Program |
| 22 LR Rifle League | Benchrest competition |
| Hunter Safety Classes | Public certification courses |
| Archery | Equipment and instruction |
"Safety is no accident." RSC takes this seriously—all range rules are formally approved, published, and distributed to members and public shooters. Steel target rules are strictly enforced for safety.
RSC is a nonprofit corporation affiliated with the National Rifle Association (NRA), Michigan United Conservation Clubs (MUCC), National Skeet Shooters Association (NSSA), and the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP).
General membership meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 7:15 P.M. (public welcome). The club also awards the Bob Bond Scholarship annually to Kent County post-secondary students pursuing environmental or law enforcement studies.
