Eastern Nebraska Gun Club operates a shooting range 2.5 miles east of Louisville on Highway 66 (or 11 miles west of Plattsmouth). The club hosts competitive matches across a dozen different shooting sports, welcoming both members and the public for various events.
The range sits north of Highway 66 on primitive outdoor facilities with no running water. Despite the basic setup, ENGC has built a robust program around multiple shooting disciplines:
Competitive Shooting Programs: - Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS/Western Action Shooting) - 3-gun matches with pistol, rifle, and shotgun using old west-themed courses of fire, sanctioned by SASS, WASA, and NCOWS - Swiss Pistol matches - based on Swiss Armed Forces annual requalification courses, approved by the Swiss Shooting Federation - Swiss Rifle matches - courses used for Swiss military annual requalification (required for Swiss male citizens aged 20-42) - Smallbore Prone Rifle matches - entry-level competitive shooting with .22LR or .17 cal rimfire rifles - High Power Rifle - F-Class - Silhouette - Action Pistol - Trap shooting (currently suspended as of January 2020, seeking volunteers) - Vintage Sniper - Youth & Women programs
Eastern Nebraska Gun Club runs open hunter sight-in events that anyone can attend. $10 for the first firearm, $5 for each additional (cash only).
What's Included: - Club furnishes targets, spotters, and benches - Targets set at 50, 100, and 200 yards - Sight-in for high power rifles, smallbore rifles, pistols, shotguns, and black powder firearms - Gunsmith on-site for minor repairs and bore sighting (fee-based) - First-come, first-served registration at the trailer
Safety is number one. Handle all firearms responsibly. Follow Range Officer instructions at all times.
Firearms Rules: - Full automatic weapons not allowed - All firearms loaded one round at a time - Firearms must be unloaded with bolts open and muzzles pointed up when not at firing line - Empty chamber indicators highly recommended - Shotguns welcome (but no full-auto)
What to Bring: - Cash only for fees - Ear and eye protection for everyone in your group - Correct ammunition (minimum 20 rounds per firearm) - Food and non-alcoholic drinks - Weather-appropriate clothing (suntan lotion and snow gear - expect everything)
Youth Requirements: - Handgun shooters under 21 must be accompanied by an adult - Rifle/shotgun shooters under 18 must be accompanied by an adult - All children must have same ear and eye protection as adults - Children must stay away from firing line with supervising adult
The Swiss pistol and rifle programs tap into Switzerland's 200+ year shooting tradition. Swiss citizens who complete military service can purchase their service weapons and must requalify annually. ENGC offers three Swiss pistol courses and two Swiss rifle courses:
While currently suspended, the club's trap program previously ran Thursday and Saturday mornings during shooting season. Standard trap shooting uses 12 gauge shotguns with 1 1/8 oz lead shot (#7 1/2 or #8), shooting at clay targets launched from the traphouse. Events include singles (16 yards), handicap (18-27 yards depending on ability), and doubles. The ATA (Amateur Trapshooting Association) governs most trap competitions, with the Grand American held annually in Sparta, Illinois.
Range entrance is on the north side of Highway 66. Follow approximately 0.9 mile north - signs are posted. The shooting area is outdoors with primitive facilities, so bring water, food, and weather protection.
