Founded October 7, 1936, South Umpqua Rod and Gun Club operates as a public shooting facility serving Douglas County and beyond. The club maintains multiple specialized ranges designed for different disciplines and skill levels.

The facility features:

  • 100-yard range (rifle only) with newly installed safety lights and alarms
  • 50-yard range (rifle and pistol) with covered shooting stations
  • 25-yard range (rimfire and pistol)
  • Enclosed pistol range for weather protection
  • Covered shooting areas
  • Indoor classroom for instruction

New 250-yard gong recently installed for long-range shooting. Note: shoot the white gong only, not the red hanger or chains.

The club supports rifle, pistol, shotgun, and air gun disciplines. Paper targets only into dirt backstops. Steel targets are restricted to rimfire calibers. Steel-jacketed or armor-piercing ammunition is prohibited on club property.

Range hours (November–March): 9am to 4pm. Hours may adjust seasonally.

Hearing protection is mandatory. No smoking, vaping, or alcohol on range property. Security cameras monitor the facility. Rapid-fire activators are prohibited. Members and guests are expected to police their brass, shotgun hulls, and trash—buckets and trash cans are provided.

Speed limit on Gun Club Road is 5 mph from the cement bridge to the 100-yard parking area.

The club offers NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course training for Oregon Concealed Handgun License applicants. Contact Mark Dowdy at 541-670-8229 for class scheduling and details.

Directions from I-5: Take exit 98 (Days Creek/Canyonville), turn right on W. 1st Street (becomes Canyonville-Riddle Road), drive 1.5 miles, watch for blue and white gun club sign, turn right on Rod and Gun Club Road and continue to the end.

Donations for range maintenance, equipment, and fuel are welcomed. Talk to Paul at the range office about membership renewal, donations, or volunteering. Hunter safety instructors are needed—contact Dave at 541-874-2531.

Club meetings are open to the public and held monthly (March 1st next meeting at 2pm).
