Custer Rod and Gun Club

Established in 1913, Custer Rod and Gun Club operates two separate shooting facilities serving the Miles City area and all of Custer County. The club runs entirely on volunteer effort and membership support—no corporate structure, just shooters keeping it going.

• •Annual membership is $50. That's it. For that you get:

• •Unlimited access to rifle, pistol, and archery ranges with zero hourly fees
• •Reduced rates on trap and skeet rounds during sanctioned events
• •Entry fee discounts on club competitions
• •Guest access when you bring a friend to the range
• •Eligibility to volunteer for certifications and instructor opportunities
• •Invitation to the Annual Banquet (first Saturday of February)
• •Your name in the hat for annual prize drawings

Memberships run calendar year (January 1 – December 31). Renew online anytime, or mail a check to P.O. Box 303, Miles City, MT 59301. New memberships take 2-3 weeks to process since everything is volunteer-run.

Key detail: Life memberships are not available. You renew yearly.

• •Sunday Creek Range is the primary facility with dedicated pistol bays, rifle ranges, and clubhouse facilities.

• •Spotted Eagle Recreation Area hosts the trap, skeet, and 5-Stand shooting.

• •SASS Cowboy Action Shooting - Occasional matches led by Randy Hart. Fun shoots, not overly complicated.

• •USPSA Matches - United States Practical Shooting Association format (currently under review).

• •Jon Hofer Memorial 5-Stand - Named tournament event, dates announced on club website and Facebook.

The club runs low-cost or free programs every year:

• •Youth Air Rifle Programs
• •Youth Trap Shooting
• •Ladies and New-Shooter Trap Clinics
• •Basic Pistol Classes
• •Concealed Weapons Training
• •Youth Archery Clinics
• •Defensive Pistol Training (offered periodically)

Members volunteer for:

• •Boy Scouts of America jamborees and badge clinics
• •Hospital fundraising trap shoots
• •Veteran group trap shoots
• •Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) youth fishing days
• •Pheasants Forever youth programs

• •New memberships: Apply online at custerrodandgun.com. You'll get your membership card and key card mailed to you in 2-3 weeks (longer if volunteers are busy). Same-day memberships aren't available.

• •Renewing: Existing members can renew online or mail a check. If you're a lapsed member and still have an old key card, reactivation takes 2-3 weeks because someone has to drive out to the range and reprogram the lock.

Important dates: - Membership year runs Jan 1 – Dec 31 - Memberships purchased after December 1 are good through Dec 31 of the following year - Unpaid memberships get shut off March 1 each year - Annual meeting and banquet: First Saturday in February

Door prize drawing requires you to have your membership card. Prize for 2026 is a Ruger 10/22 in .22LR. Volunteer incentive prize is a Heritage Revolver in .22LR/.22MAG.

Getting involved unlocks incentive prize drawings at the annual banquet. Work days happen seasonally:

• •Range cleanup and maintenance
• •Target repair and replacement
• •Grounds work (clearing, dirt work)
• •Equipment repairs
• •Setup/takedown for events

Volunteers can also earn credentials by helping with instruction and Range Officer training.
